New Stars Join the Cliffhanger Reboot
The 1993 action-thriller “Cliffhanger” is being rebooted, though it will proceed without one of its original stars. Production company Rocket Science confirmed the reboot, revealing that Lily James and Pierce Brosnan will now headline the film. Unfortunately for fans of the original, Sylvester Stallone, who was initially expected to be part of the reboot, has decided to exit due to significant creative changes within the project.
A Glimpse Behind the Scenes
Rocket Science has shared a first-look image along with a behind-the-scenes photograph from the film’s set. These glimpses offer a peek into the high-altitude drama that fans can anticipate in the upcoming thriller.
Changes in Direction and Script
The directorial and writing team has undergone a shake-up as well. Initially, Ric Roman Waugh was set to direct from a script by Mark Bianculli. However, Jaume Collet-Serra, known for films like “Jungle Cruise” and “Black Adam,” has taken over directing duties. The script now originates from a story developed by Ana Lily Amirpour. The reboot is being envisioned as a “father-daughter version of Die Hard,” signifying a notably different take on the classic tale.
The Reimagined Plot
The reboot presents a fresh narrative, centered around experienced climber Ray Cooper, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan, and his daughter Sydney as they manage a mountain chalet in the picturesque Dolomites. When a billionaire’s son’s visit results in a kidnapping plot, Ray’s eldest daughter, Naomi (played by Lily James), witnesses the event. Despite her own traumatic past involving a climbing accident, Naomi must rally to rescue her family amidst the rugged landscapes of the Italian Dolomites.
Additional Cast Members and Filming Updates
Alongside James and Brosnan, the cast includes actors Nell Tiger Free, Franz Rogowski, Shubham Saraf, Assaad Bouab, Suzy Bemba, and Bruno Gouery. Although the exact release date remains under wraps, production is in full swing in Austria.
Legacy of the Original Film
The original “Cliffhanger,” starring Sylvester Stallone as a mountain climber facing off against a group of criminals after a heist goes awry, was a substantial box office hit. Garnering $255 million globally, it stood as one of the top-grossing films of that year.
